Description

Rahrah kilim is a kind of flat technique, quite similar, but stronger and thicker than a kilim, with a smooth front face and an uneven back, unlike the kilim that is soft on both sides.
In its elaboration the warp is stretched to one side and the weft yarn is passed under four warp yarns which are then made back on the reverse under 2 yarns, then advanced again on 4 yarns and thus repeating the same steps. The kilim rahrah lacks the same characteristics as kilim, since it is usually woven with additional weft yarns as continuous supports.
The best specimens of this rug called rahrah, just as the sumaks originally come from the Caucasus region, northwestern Iran and other regions of central asia. Also Kurdish weavers in eastern Turkey have sometimes produced a few copies of soumak or rahrak kilim without plot.
